Abbott Laboratories sued Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd., the world's largest generic-drug maker, to prevent it from marketing copies of the Zemplar kidney-disease treatment. Abbott and patent partner the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation contend Israel's Teva plans to begin selling a generic version of the injectable medicine, known chemically as paricalcitol, before three U.S. patents expire in 2018. Teva "actively reviews pharmaceutical patents and seeks opportunities to challenge those patents,

Back in July, we wrote about how a company named Volomedia had gleefully announced that it had patented podcasting . The patent itself (7,568,213) seemed ridiculously broad, obvious and covered by prior art. On top of that, it was difficult to see how it passed the current (though, perhaps not for long) "Bilski" test for what can be patented.

Frank, first, good to hear you are out of the hospital and back at the keyboard where you belong, and regardless how chipper you are or are not feeling, the fact that you won't sink to the level of RB and those you mentioned says a lot about your character. To me and many others I am sure, you are one of the true assets of this board. HOWEVER, lol, this is no longer the EDIG of debt financing, dilution and empty promises of Key patents playing the waiting game to see the light of day.

Orasure Technologies, the Bethlehem maker of the OraQuick HIV test and other medical products, announced Thursday that it has agreed to pay Inverness Medical Innovations $3 million to settle a patent infringement lawsuit. The settlement will push Orasure to steeper-than-expected losses in the fourth quarter, according to the company. But it also puts an issue to rest regarding the company's leading product, which became the first U.S. government-approved rapid HIV test in 2002 and can detect the virus t

The term "3-D" has been largely synonymous with Hollywood blockbusters, buttered popcorn and ill-fitting cardboard glasses since the 1950s, when three-dimensionality was introduced to draw TV owners into theaters. Over the past 20 years, 3-D-capable devices like set-top boxes as well as 3-D programming have become available at home. A lack of standard broadcasting formats, relatively little content and the need for 3-D glasses, however, have kept it from a broad audience.

I'm certainly not a lawyer or an expert in patent law, but it seems the work Adam Curry and I did in creating the format and protocol for podcasting, in 2001, may have inspired their "invention." It certainly predates it. This comes up because of this absurd patent grant to Volomedia.
